2017

NEWS AND UPDATES:

DECEMBER 11, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was held today. A day we have worked on all year. A new face appeared today, Bill Gonda came along with Bill Taylor, and we were very glad to see them both.  Picture is on our Shutterfly account.  Hopefully now they will join us more frequently.  With 23 in attendance we were able to distribute our charity money which we had collected this year.

The Eastside Community Ministry, Transitions, Inc. and the VFW Post 1058 Honor Guards were our recipients. Each organization received a $500.00 check from the Class of 1957.  Each group had a representative who gave details about the charity they represent, which was very informative. This distribution brings our total of local donations to $6,700.00 in six years.  Hats off to all who have made this event so successful. Each of you should be very proud of your class.

Marcia Imlay gave the benediction today.  A good time was had by all.  Remember to keep us informed of any news you should like to share.  Be sure to mark your calendars for JULY 28, 2018, as we will be having our annual get together .  Here is wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.  God Bless You in the coming year.

NOVEMBER 13, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was held today with 18 in attendance.  We had a new face today when Sheila Powell Addis came to join us.  We hope that she will continue to come and enjoy the company of old friends. We would love for more local classmates to attend and be a part of a great group of people.

We held our discussion on which local charities would be receiving our contribution this year.  It has been decided that we will donate the money to the VFW, Eastside Ministries and Transitions.  The money will be presented at our monthly luncheon in December. Amounts will be announced at the get together. Way to go, Class of 57.

No news to pass on for the month, and if any of the classmates has something to share, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Our veterans are a special group of men and women and we honor them today and every day. Here is a Salute from your classmates. God bless each of you.

Francis Holzschuher gave the benediction and the conversations began. Here is wishing everyone a  blessed Thanksgiving.

OCTOBER 9, 2017 –  The monthly get together was held today with 19 classmates and friends. The weather was a bit rainy but all in all a pleasant day.

Not much news  but we had a lot of discussion on where the charity fund money will be distributed.  When the decision is made in November, we will let you know who the recipients are and the amounts they will receive. There is still time to give your opinion. The fund now stands at $1.694.00

If you have any information to share with the class, please let me know.  We are always interested in hearing from you.

Shirley Bennett gave the benediction. We look forward to seeing you next month. We ask that you pray for all the victims of hurricanes, the horrible shooting victims of Las Vegas and the turmoil our country is in.  Remember we live in the greatest country in the world.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was held today with a nice turnout of 22 in attendance.  Although the south is suffering such devastation with the hurricanes, tornados and flooding, the weather here was very nice, but soon we will be getting the storms and after effects of the hurricanes.   Our hearts go out to all the people who are suffering such losses and our prayers are with each of them.  Also a reminder of the tragic our country suffered on September 11, 2001, and how this country pulled together.  We are strong and find a way to move forward as we are One Nation Under God.

The charity fund is growing and now stands at $1,675.00.  It is now getting close to deciding on what charities we should contribute to.  I am asking for input from classmates to determine where the money should go.  If you have suggestions, please let me know as we will be voting in November and would like to have discussions in the next month.

Ron Wetherell is progressing from his brain surgery and hopes to make a visit to Zanesville in the near future.  If you know of a classmate who would like to hear from us, please let me know.

No further news this month.  Tom Hall gave the benediction and a good time was had by all.  For all of our classmates in the south and west, please know we are thinking of you.  May God bless the United States and pray for the weather to settle down so the re-building can begin again.

AUGUST 14, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was held today with a good turnout of 22 classmates and spouses.  It is always great to get together for small talk.

The reunion seemed to be a success so we are going to do it again next year thanks to the generosity of classmates, Dr. Raymond and Connie Watiker.  He will provide the funds for the Remember Then Band and classmates will pay for the dinner.  It will be held on July 28, 2017, at the Virtues Golf Club.  We are asking for you to mark your calendars now so we will be on your list of events for next year.  We thank Raymond for his kindness.

I have pictures available for $2.00 if you are interested in receiving one.  Just let me know or you can go on our Shutterfly account and order one.  If you want to look at it first on the account and then let me know I will get one for you.  We once again thank Bob Patterson for taking the picture for us.

Our charity fund has climbed to $1,638.00.  If you have any suggestions as to where you would like the money to be distributed to, please feel free to give us your input.

Ron Davis gave the benediction and we ate and enjoyed a lot of laughs to get us through until the next time.  Always remembering we are blessed that we can still gather together as we have many classmates who are suffering.  Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.  God bless each of you as we go forward.

JULY 10, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was held today with 16 in attendance.  Pretty good considering the reunion is coming on July 28th and 29th.

Ron Wetherel was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor and had surgery three weeks ago.  He is progressing well but having trouble with his vision in the left eye.  We sent off a card to him and ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Ron was always attended all the class reunions and we will miss him this year.  Pauline Snelling Davis is now a month into her dialysis and growing stronger day by day.  Keep her in your thoughts and prayers also.

The charity fund has now grown to $1,460.00.  We received a nice contribution from Dale Richards, who lives in Arizona and will not be attending the reunion this year. Hopefully he will get back for our next event.  Thanks, Dale.

The reunion will be here shortly and I am happy to report we have 98 reservations.  It should be a good time.  Remember it has been 60 years and we are still going strong. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

Marcia Nethers Imlay gave the benediction and we enjoyed our visit with each other.  Wishing you all a safe trip for the reunion.

JUNE 12, 2017 – Summer is coming and the heat has arrived but that didn’t stop us from gathering for the monthly luncheon with a good turn-out of 24.  Linda Lichtner Lee is visiting from Alabama and Nellie Norris is here from Florida.  It is great that when classmates are in town they make a point of attending the luncheons. The luncheons are supposed to be listed in the newspaper, but they don’t always get in there.  We do have the luncheons every month on the second Monday at the Golden Corral.  We are in our ninth year and still going strong.

I want to mention that Ron Davis just retired from umpiring after 50 years.  Last year he was hit and broke his hip but that didn’t keep him from going out this year and completing 50 years on the field.  There was a very nice write up in the Zanesville Times Recorder on his success.  We congratulate him on a job well done.

Pauline Snelling Davis has had quite a last few weeks with health issues and now she is starting dialysis and doing well.  Please keep her in your prayers.

May 8, 2017 – The monthly luncheon was headed by Phyllis Young Bradshaw this month as I was on vacation at Emerald Isle, North Carolina with part of my family. Pauline Snelling Davis is still under the weather along with Earl Miller.  We have also now learned that Marilyn Dailey Shaffer, Roberta Conkle Watton, Jerry Norman and Russell Burke are all having health issues and we need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers. Cards will go out next month to each of them. If you know of anyone who would like to hear from us, just let me know.

April 9, 2017 – Oh what a beautiful day. The weather is in the mid 70’s and it is time to get busy in the yards, but first we took a little time out for a get together at the monthly luncheon with 18 in attendance.

We are sending two cards this month, one to Earl Miller, who continues with his health issues, and Roger Penos, who is recovering from heart surgery.  Please keep them in your prayers.  We received a nice thank you note from Ron and Shirley Vandegriff and we truly appreciate it and will also continue to keep them in our prayers. Once again, if you know of a classmate who would like to hear from us, please do not hesitate to let us know.

The charity fund is now $989.00, thanks to the generosity of the classmates.

The reunion reservations are slow coming in, but we hope to receive many more in this next month.  If you are planning on attending, get your reservations in to help make it a little easier for your committee.

MARCH 13, 2017 –  What a fun time we had today as we met for the monthly luncheon. There were 23 gathered today.  It was good to see JoAnn Longstreth Mount back after a long year with health issues. Gloria Canter Denny was down from Newark to join us again.  Louis Lacey also joins us after having stents in December.  Along with all the classmates who attend regularly, it was a good day.

As I stated last month, the letters have gone out for the upcoming reunion.  If you did not receive your note, please let us know.  I am working on the booklet and want the information to be as accurate as possible. We are asking that you send in your reservations as soon as possible giving us the opportunity to properly prepare the reunion.  Even you are not coming, please send the form back with your current information. For the classmates who have ordered the booklet they will not be available until after the deadline giving everyone a chance to have the correct address, etc.

We want to thank Willits Sawyer for his generous contribution to our reunion.

Jim Paisley had surgery for kidney stones last week and we pray for his speedy recovery. We ask that all the classmate continue to keep Ronnie and Shirley Vandagriff and their family in your prayers, as the trial for the man who murdered their granddaughter, Jackie Vandagriff, in Texas will be held later this year.

We have received word that Donna Mercer German is having health issues and Earl Miller has had surgery. We ask that you keep them in your prayers and have sent cards to them.  If any of you would like to share any information, please let us know.  We care about all our classmates.

We are now in our 10th year of monthly luncheons and will continue if everyone remains interested in the monthly get together. If you have never attended, you should give us a try.  The laughter is the best medicine you can get and it is free.
