2012

December 10, 2012 – The monthly luncheon was held today with 21 classmates, 3 spouses and 2 guests.  Today was especially rewarding to each of us as we were able to present checks in the amount of $350.00 each to Christ’s Table and Avondale Children’s Home from the generosity of all the classmates who participated in the donations all year long.

Keeley Warden from Christ’s Table spoke to the group regarding the workings of the organization and we were delighted to hear about how much the community is helped by having this facility available to it.  She also said they are always in need of volunteers to serve or deliver meals to the shut-ins and would love to see us volunteer.  Sherry Holstein from the Avondale Children’s Home explained the operation of the home and how it has changed over the years from an orphanage to a treatment center for the youth.

We sent a few cards today to the following classmates:  Earl Sims is recovering from open heart surgery and is on the recovery road. We miss him and wish him a speedy recovery.  Mary Lou Fraunfelter Gantz, who is a regular at the luncheons, fell and broke her foot and will not be attending for a couple of months. We wish her the best. Gary Bowles is having health problems and we ask that you keep him in your prayers.  Roger Cramer is still struggling with his cancer and putting up a courageous fight.  If anyone would like to send cards and need addresses, please let me know.

Last month I gave a class picture mug to the attendee of the most luncheons, and I was asked to order some for the classmates who wanted to purchase one for themselves, which I did.  It is black with the class picture on it.  If anyone is interested I will order them for $14.50 each.

Everyone received a 2013 calendar with the class picture on it.

You will find the picture of the class presenting the checks in the luncheon gallery.  You can also find pictures from the attendees in the http://zhsclassof1957pictures.shutterfly.com.

We were also glad to see Roger Cramer join us.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers as his cancer has progressed.

Another year has come to a close regarding the luncheons since we started them in November, 2007.  For those classmates who have not attended, we keep an attendance sheet.  For this year, Michael Erichsen, Tom Hall, Shirley Bennett and Joe Burns attended all the luncheons. Joe Kennedy, Karen Goins, Earl Miller, and Marcia Nethers Imlay attended eleven luncheons and Eleanor Norris Whitehouse attended ten luncheons.  There was a drawing between the classmates who attended all of the luncheons and Mike Erichsen won the mug with the class picture. You will find their picture in our shutterfly file under http://zhsclassof1957pictures.shutterfly.com.   Congratulations to ALL the classmates who attend the luncheons and make them such a success.

September 10, 2010 – The monthly luncheon was held today with a small group of 15 classmates and 3 spouses.

The main business today was to get ideas for the Christmas Project. Hopefully, next month there will be suggestions on how to distribute the funds. With today’s contributions, the fund stands at $636.55 and the feeling is that we will donate to several projects. If any classmate has a suggestion, we would appreciate hearing from you.

August 13, 2012 – The monthly luncheon was held today at the Golden Corral with a small group of 20. Discussion was held on the survey taken at the dinner.  Results show that a majority would like to have an annual picnic with the Box Lunch style.  Also, the majority would like a two day event of some type for the 5 year reunion.  July was the month most preferred, followed by August.  To all who filled out the questionnaire, we thank you for your input.  We can never please everyone but we do our best and are open for any suggestions that come our way.

The Knight of Columbus hall had asked to be considered for our monthly luncheons.  I explained what they offered and a vote was held.  The decision was to stay at the Golden Corral.

The Zanesville Alumni Association has been selling trees with a plaque showing the class name for $400.00 and we took a vote at the reunion and it was decided we would purchase the tree.  We took the funds from the treasury and the purchase is now complete.  When the dedication is decided I will put the date out for anyone who would like to attend.  It will either be late fall or spring, depending on the number of trees sold.   There has already been one ceremony for the first 16 sold, and we are in the second group.

The class picture taken at the reunion was donated by Pauline & Ron Davis and passed out to the attendees.  The remaining pictures will be mailed to the classmates who attended the dinner.

I have set up an addition to this web site.  It is http://zhsclassof1957pictures.shutterfly.com.  The purpose is to display more pictures and news on a weekly basis if necessary.  When you click on it, you will need to register to become a member to view the site, make comments, etc.  All pictures are labeled with the classmate’s name, when you click on the individual pictures.  It would also be nice to hear from you regarding the site and if it is feasible to keep it up.  So far it has been very favorable. We are doing away with the Blog for lack of interest.

July 9, 2012 – The monthly luncheon was held today and even with the power outages over the last week and a half and the extremely hot weather, there were 21 classmates, 6 spouses and 1 grandchild in attendance.

It gave us the opportunity to discuss the update reunion on July 27th and 28th.  We have 96 reservations for Friday and 109 for Saturday, so it looks like we will have a pretty good turnout for the 55th.  We have several classmates or their spouses who are ill and won’t be attending this year. To each of you, we will miss you and hope to see you next time.

The Christmas Fund continues to grow and is now at $247.00, and we are truly thankful to all the classmates who contribute each month.

I must mention that our Christmas project fund is growing especially with the help of classmate, Sondra (Lewis) Wiezbiski.  She made a generous contribution to the fund, and we thank her very much.  Our classmates are the best.

Hot Flash from our classmate, Dave Anderson – He is a volunteer at his local police department, doing paperwork in the evidence room and working as a volunteer patrolman.  He does work that sworn officers would otherwise have to do or not get to at all, such as vacation house checks and taking documents to the County Attorney’s office, located at the county seat of Bisbee; he also does traffic control around accidents, etc.  THE BEST is that he get to wear a snappy blue uniform, which is a real “chick magnet”, assuming that the “chicks are 94 and up.  Dave is never at a loss for words, and we enjoying hearing from him.

Classmate Roy Shultz, a veteran, and his wife, Glenna, recently donated a POW/MIA flag to the veteran complex on Maple Avenue.  Thanks to Roy.

We had one new face this month, Wendell Dreier and his wife, Judy.  Wendell has a putt putt course in Dresden if anyone would want to visit it on our picnic day.  Their picture is in the Golden Corral Photo Gallery along with picture of Mike Erichsen, JoAnn Mount and Marcia Imlay having a good time with the cotton candy.  We really do have fun during our get together.

We have started a Blog and have had several missteps getting started and for that we apologize.  So if you want to join in – here’s the instructions:  Click on the Blog icon and when the blog appears, scroll down and look at the right hand side for the list of items.  Click on Register and enter the username you would like to use and your email address.  The blog then sends you back your password (which you can change after you log in if you prefer).
