2018

2018

DECEMBER 10, 2018 –  As the year comes to an end, it has been a proud year for the Class of 1957.  Today as we met, we made our annual donation to The Salvation Army in the amount of $1,000.00.

In the last seven years our class has now donated $7,700.00 to local charities.  We have a very generous group of classmates and I am so proud to be a part of such generosity.   Today Mindy McCloy, Office Manager of The Salvation Army, accepted the donation and gave a very interesting talk about the works of the organization.

Each classmate and guest received a gift from our loyal waitress of 11 years, Angie.  We thank her for her kindness to us and putting up with this old group.

This was a day of celebration so there is no more news today.  Shirley Bennett gave the benediction and a good time was started.

May each of you have a blessed Christmas and Happy New Year, remembering the true meaning of the season.  Until next year.

NOVEMBER 12, 2018  – Today as we celebrate Veterans Day, 16 classmates and friends came together at the Golden Corral.

November is a very busy month for all of us as we prepare for the beginning of the holiday season with two weeks until the Thanksgiving Day Celebration. Lots of traveling for classmates and we wish them all safe trips.

Today we decided on the charity to receive our donation for 2018.  It will be the Salvation Army.  We will announce the amount at the December meeting when the check is presented to them.  Come join us in the celebration and be a part of a very generous group of classmates.  I am so proud to be a part of this class.

We will continue to collect donations each month so we can continue to give back to the Zanesville Muskingum County community. We always appreciate donations from classmates who are unable to come to our monthly luncheons but want to be part of the give back to Zanesville.

We learned that Kenny Weber had back surgery in September and is doing well.  Our best wishes go out to him for a speedy recovery.  To all our classmates who are ill and having health issues we send you our prayers for better health.

Connie Honesty Watiker gave the benediction.  Once again, we thank all our veterans for their service and pray for all the men in harm’s way at this time for our protection.   God Bless each and every one of them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the classmates and families.  May your holiday bring smiles and laughter knowing how grateful we are to be able to be free and love one and other.

Please join us on December 10th, as we make our donation to the Salvation Army.

October 8, 2018 – On a very hot and humid October day, 18 gathered for the monthly luncheon at the Golden Corral.  It is always good to see all the familiar faces come together in friendship.

Our Charity Fund has now grown to $1,161.00 with today’s contribution and a donation from Sherrie Supplee Brubaker.  Our class is a very kind and caring group of people.  It is nice to have contributions come from our classmates, who are unable to attend our monthly luncheons, but are still a very big part of the class.  Next month is very important as we will be deciding where the money will go.  If you have an organization you feel is worthy to receive our fund, we would love to hear from you.  We would like to have as many classmates attend as possible to help make the choice.

I have received word that classmate, Sig Illing, is having health issues.  Please keep him in your prayers.  If any of you know of a classmate who would like to hear from us, just let us know.  All classmates are important to us.

It is now time for you to get out your calendars for 2019.  We are in the midst of planning our party to celebrate our 80th birthday year.  Put a big circle around July 27, 2019, and plan on joining us for the birthday party.  Some will already be 80 with the rest turning that great age by the end of the year.  We must celebrate as we are truly blessed to have made it to this milestone.

Shirley Bennett gave the benediction in place of Earl Sims today as his wife, Sarah, had a fall and is now recovering at home.  Earl is a devoted classmate and always willing to help in any way, and I ask you keep them in your prayers.

Happy Columbus Day to all of you and God Bless these United States in spite of all the divisions.  We are one nation under God.

SEPTEMBER 10, 2018 – The monthly luncheon was held today with a small group of 15.  Although it was a small group we had a good visit.

We didn’t have anything new for this month so it was mainly all social today.

The Charity Fund has a current total of $1,120.00, and it is about decision time for our annual distribution.  We are open for suggestions and the decision will be made at the November meeting.

Joe Kennedy gave the benediction and the chatter took over.  Looking forward to seeing more classmates next month.

If any of you have information you would like for the class to know, please let me know.  Have a good September and hope to see you next time.  Prayers for our country as we approach the dreaded September 11th remembrance.  God bless the United States of America.

AUGUST 13, 2018 – The monthly luncheon was held today with a relatively small gathering of 14.  Nancy and Bob Patterson were visiting from Virginia and we were glad they took time from their trip to join us.

After the class reunion on July 28th there was some discussion about the event.  Everyone said they enjoyed it and glad they had attended yet another get together. Some pictures have been posted to the Shutterfly account.  I hope to receive more in the next month to post.  Check it out to see who attended.

We had lost two classmates in the last month:  Caralee Saad Davisson passed away on July 21, 2018.  She is survived by four children: Jay (Jenny); Jeff (Mary); Jewel (Mike) Havers and Janelle (Dameson) Palms; twelve grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister Sue (Charles) Vousden; and a brother David (Gloria) Saad.   Our condolences to her family and friends.

Laura Diane Osborne Wilson passed away on August 8, 2018.  She is survived by three children, Chris (Sally) Wilson, Stephen (Juanita) Wilson and Missy Mullinnex, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brothers. Jim (Ruth) Osborne and Mike (Patty) Osborne; and two sisters Mary (Tip) Barnhart and Connie (Dale) Lyon.  She was married to classmate, Tom Wilson, who is also deceased. Our condolences to her family and friends.

Please keep them in your prayers.

With the reunion and today’s donations, the charity fund is now at $1.092.00.

With no more news today, Eleanor Norris Whitehouse led the prayer and the usual good time was held by all.   Here is hoping more classmates will join us at the future meetings.  Have a blessed month.

JULY 9, 2018 – Today we had 17 in attendance for the monthly luncheon. Always glad to get together and bring everyone up to date on the goings on around us.

The charity fund total is $834.00 with four months to go, and we thank you for your contributions.  Before long, it will be time to begin our selections for the donations.  Let us know your thoughts on where you would like the money to go.

It is about time for the reunion and we have reservations for 74.  It should be a fun time.  Remember July 28th at the Virtue Golf Resort.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.  Drive safe.

Marcia Nethers Imlay gave the benediction and it was time to eat and visit.

June 11, 2018 –  We gathered today with a group of 16 classmates and friends.  The weather was not helpful as we had rain with more expected throughout the week.  Nellie Norris Evans visited with us from Florida.  We are always happy when classmates from out of state make a point of joining us for the luncheons.

I don’t have much to report today as it has been a slow month for news.  If anyone has something they would like to share with the class, please let me know.

The reunion is now coming together and the final reservations will be due by June 20, 2018.  So, if you are planning on attending and have not sent your reservation in, please do so.  It should be a fun time.  It will be the 61st year since graduation. It is hard to believe that many years have passed.  We are so fortunate that we are still able to get together.  Looking forward to seeing all of you.

The charity fund has now grown to $819.00 due to the generosity of class members.

Sandra Wright Douglas gave the benediction. To all the Dads, Happy Father’s Day.

May 13, 2018 – The monthly luncheon was held today with the weather being 84 and it looks like we are in for some severe storms.  We only had 14 in attendance but it was still an enjoyable time being with our classmates for a get together.

The charity fund continues to grow and now stands at $789.00 through the generosity of attendees.

I am saddened to report that we have lost another classmate.  Willa Ruth Garich Deveny passed away on April 16, 2018. Willa Ruth had been actively involved in all the class reunions for our class until last year. She will be sadly missed.  She is survived by her two daughters, Traci (Ron) Couch and Mischka (Steve) Winland both of Zanesville. Also surviving two grandsons, Douglas (Michelle Straughter) Lee Mell II and Charles William Mell of Columbus, Ohio, a great grandson, Sebastian Mell; a brother Peter (Jean) Garich and several nieces and nephews.  Our condolences to all of her family and friends.

The reservations are coming in slowly and I encourage you to get yours in if you are planning on attending the fun evening at Virtue Golf Course on July 28, 2018. The deadline is June 20, 2018. Looking forward to seeing you.

Mike Erichson gave the benediction and everyone was ready to eat.  Have a good month.  The next luncheon is June 11, 2018.

APRIL 9, 2018 – The monthly luncheon was held today with the snow showers coming down around us.  Enough is enough, bring on spring.  A small group of 14, but there is never a dull moment.

The charity fund has now grown to $770.00, thanks to the generosity of the classmates.

I am saddened to announce we had two classmates pass away this month.  Nancy Knowlden Gregg passed away on March 21, 2018 at her residence.  She is survived by her son, Eric (Kelly) Gregg, and daughter, Sherri (Chuck) Hand; two grandchildren: Amanda Taylor and Neil (Brittany) Taylor, and two step brothers: Eldean Knowlden and Bernard Knowlden.  Our prayers and condolences to her family and friends.

Reid, Jr. of Sugarland, Texas, one sister Lana Staley of Cincinnati, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Our prayers and condolences to her family and friends.

Alice Dodson Blake is recovering from surgery and we ask you to keep her in your prayers.

The reunion reservations are coming in and if you haven’t sent in yours, please consider it soon.  It should prove to be a good time.

Eleanor Whitehouse gave the benediction and the chatter began.  I have to tell you I laughed so much listening to the stories.  At this age a good laugh is good and if you haven’t attended the luncheons, give us a try.

Looking forward to May and warm weather and pray you all have a good month.

MARCH 12, 2018 – The monthly luncheon was held today with the sun shining but temperature still in the 40s. Seventeen classmates and friends joined together with a fun time catching up from our last get together.

The reservations are coming in for our summer reunion to be held on July 28th with the Remember Then Band to perform.  Get your reservations in early.  If you have any questions give me a call.

The charity fund is growing and as of today,  the amount is  $742.00. All I can say is “What a class”.

Shirley Bennett gave the benediction and the fellowship began.

I don’t have any more news so I will close for now, wishing everyone a good St. Patrick’s Day and a blessed Easter.  God bless each of you during the very special season.

FEBRUARY 12, 2018 –      The monthly luncheon was held today with much better weather.  The temperature was around 39 degrees but the sun was shining brightly.  This made the day better and lifted the spirits a lot more than 5 degrees and ice, so we are blessed today.  The turnout was low with only 13 in attendance, but that didn’t damper the spirit as there was plenty of chatter going on.

Steve Sturtevant had sent us a very generous donation for our charity fund which now stands at $713.00 through February.  Thank you so much Steve, we really appreciate your kindness to the class.

We received very nice thank you notes from the three charities which we donated our funds to in December.  The community appreciates our donations to the different organizations. We should all be proud that the class has donated $6,700.00 back to Zanesville.

The letters have gone out for the class get together scheduled for July 28, 2018.  If you have not received a copy, please let me know and I will see that one is mailed to you.

Phyllis Young Bradshaw gave the benediction and a good time was had by all.  Happy Valentine’s Day to each of you.  Looking forward to hearing from you in the coming months.  God Bless You.

JANUARY 8, 2018 – This year is starting off with snow, rain and icy conditions so the monthly luncheon was cancelled for this month.  Stay connected as we will come together again in February.

On a sad note we have lost a classmate. Judith Pearson Blair passed away on December 28, 2017.  Judy is survived by her children, Susan (Bob) Weiland, Steven Pearson Shaw, Becky (Jeff) Bridges; her grandchildren, Abby (Gary) Sheaffer, Derek Weiland, Dillon(Amanda) Shaw, Kaylecia (Garen) King, Kayloni (Chandler) Baldwin, Michael Bridges, Jeremy (Christina) Bridges, Christopher (Lora) Bridges and Six great-grandchildren.  Our condolences to all of her family and friends.

The reunion is going to be held July 28, 2018, at The Virtues Golf Course with the Remember Then Band performing. Mark your calendars and plan on joining us for another fun evening.  Till next time, God Bless all of you.
